Hidden among the baggage wagons, a Pennsylvania Railroad plain clothes man spies two loiterers near the tracks west of the station. 5396's bell starts ringing.

"She's starting -- that bull can't see us on the engineer's side -- here it comes -- follow me -- grab the handrail -- gimme your other hand -- good -- we're on our way to St. Louis. Unseen."
